Debating Society trip to Paris 18th - 22nd Feb'2011
These are some notes and ideas for those Debaters travelling - it is hoped that this will get you planning how to enjoy yourself in Paris. Paddy Glavin has a wealth of Knowledge about Paris.
Paris is a wonderful city, we hope you will enjoy your visit and take home some happy memories.
Recommended Reading book: Eyewitness Guide to Paris - DK Publishing available Eason's or your local library.
Insurance: Private or EU Health Insurance Card: Make sure you understand how medical claims work in France.
Culture: Learn a few words of French - they just love when you make an attempt to speak their language.
Hotel Cosmos Tel: Patrons Gerard & Claire, both speak perfect English, 35 Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 75011 Paris, Tel: 01 43 57 25 88 -there are a number of Metro stations near the Hotel: Republic - Paramentier and others. The hotel rooms have safes. Be careful of your possessions in tourist areas, metro stations etc. There is no bar in the Hotel.
Eating/Drinking: The Cosmos offer a French Breakfast as an option - extra cost 7€/pp/day. Restaurants near the hotel are reasonably priced. There's a very good Italian nearby + others. There is a Supermarket around the corner from the Hotel if you feel peckish and wish to purchase refreshments.
Weather / Clothing: It will be cold by Dublin standards - bring gloves, hat, Winter coat etc
Transport: It is recommended that you buy a "carnet" for the Metro - this is 10 tickets - you need 1 ticket for each Metro trip. It saves you queuing each trip and it's also cheaper.
Contacts: A list of mobile numbers will be circulated closer to the travel date of Debater's travelling - just in case anyone needs to phone a fellow traveller.
What to do: A meeting has been arranged for the Monday night 21st Feb 7pm to attend a local Paris Toastmasters Club - (Restaurant Vesuvio (upstairs room on the right) 25 rue Quentin Bauchart, 75008 Paris Métro George V http://www.parisspeechmasters.com Contact Names:Bob Mohl, Jill Jacquot, Mark Uhric, Peter Kenton
So that begs the question - what to do Friday night - Saturday - Sunday - Monday daytime - Tuesday daytime.
Since we probably have differing ideas on what we want to do/see while in Paris. It is recommended that - to give everyone the opportunity to do/see what they personally want to do/see - that each person plans what they wist to do/see each day - liase with fellow travellers - since you will probably find someone going to the same place.
Some suggestions of what to do/see: There are hundreds of places to see in Paris.
